I liked the movie, enough that I can say that it is an experience. If there is one thing that I look for in a movie is it's completeness, in the sense that the audience is given enough not to be left bedazzled or wondering where the characters are coming from, and what they end up at the point of its conclusion.

As I have said, the story is all about love and family. I saw a typical Filipino mother in the character of Vilma (Shirley), semi strict but loving, sometimes annoying yet caring. Being a single mom after she separated from the husband, she needed to be strong, which made her tough as a person, the same way she became unconsciously tough on her 3 kids. In a son's point of view, I was caught with the characters of Dimples, Luis, and John Lloyd. With Dimples', her dreams of a better life abroad for her own family, her desire for a better place for her mother; with Luis's, being carefree living independently in his own means in New York City, his being the favorite son, his love for her mother and being her partner in crime, his frustration to live with the expectations set by her and how it ironically became the main factor why they have become emotionally distant; and with John Lloyd's, how he is hardworking, how he is so caring with his partner, friends and family, and most importantly, how he is so selfless.

I will not comment on the technical aspect of the movie. Everything works out fine if not perfect, anyway. Overall, In My Life is definitely a family movie. I am planning to watch it again, but this time with mother. I don't know if I will take my Dad with us. Perhaps with my sister. 

I don't deny getting mixed emotions after reading some web definitions of the word: ASIAN. A handful made me smile. Some made me shocked, surprised. Some I find just really wierd and funny. But all, I say, is worth knowing.
